Panel Talk – Creating Patterns
With the Panel Talk we aim to initiate a discussion about forming and recognizing patterns. During the panel discussion, led by a moderator, a participating composer, choreographer and psychologist will discuss their experiences in forming useful patterns and methods in their work practice. It will also discuss recognizing and transforming vicious circles and other blocking patterns. The aim is to share personal experiences from different disciplines. Furthermore, the presence of a psychologist offers the opportunity to discuss methods for recognizing, forming and transforming patterns. After the interview, the conversation will be opened for questions, experiences and comments from the audience.

Jam Session – Breaking Patterns
The jam session is a participatory warm-up for Express Lab, open for everyone to break patterns through free improvisation. The meeting is led by the composer and musician, Christine Cornwell, and is open to anyone interested in dancing and making music to come and improvise together!

EXPRESS LAB – Performances
During three days of rehearsals at Batavierhuis and Toneelgarage Rotterdam, two groups of dancers, musicians and a psychologist meet to create a brand-new performance. Having not worked in this constellation before, the participants will be given a theme on the first day of the process. Besides being challenged by the time pressure, the participants are given no creative limits in collaborating and inventing two short performances. The collaboration will culminate in 2 days of performances at Batavierhuis & Toneelgarage Rotterdam in Delfshaven. Before the showing of the original creations, there will be a short introduction of the given theme. After the performances at Batavierhuis & Toneelgarage Rotterdam, the audience is invited to an after-drink and participatory after-talk and discussion at Toneelgarage Rotterdam.

Express Lab is an event by Rotterdam based dance company Lazy Susan & Co. and is made possible in collaboration with CultureHub, Toneelgarage, Batavierhuis, SKVR, Volkskracht, Droom & Daad, Cultuur Concreet, DeltaPORT.
In Express Lab gaan twee groepen dansers en muzikanten de uitdaging aan om in slechts 3 dagen een voorstelling te creëren. Deze intensieve samenwerking resulteert in een explosie van creativiteit en inventiviteit, met twee shows waarin de jonge makers hun ontdekkingen met u delen.
De voorstellingen worden gespeeld in theater Toneelgarage en creatieve broedplaats Batavierhuis*. We wisselen van locatie met een korte wandeling. Na afloop bent u welkom voor een drankje in Toneelgarage.
*We verzamelen in Toneelgarage, de deuren zijn open vanaf 18:15

Lazy Susan & Co.
Lazy Susan & Co. is een dansgezelschap in Rotterdam bestaande uit elf hedendaagse dansprofessionals. Het dansgezelschap functioneert als een productieplatform voor dansvoorstellingen gemaakt door haar leden en organiseert evenementen in de regio Rotterdam. Het idee voor Lazy Susan & Co. is ontstaan vanuit een gedeelde interesse om een onafhankelijk platform te creëren waar de artistieke ideeën van hedendaagse danskunstenaars in Rotterdam tot uitvoering gebracht kunnen worden.
At Express Lab, two groups of dancers and musicians take on the challenge of creating a presentation in just 3 days. This intensive collaboration results in an explosion of creativity and innovation, with two shows in which the artists share their discoveries with you.
The work will be presented at Toneelgarage and Batavierhuis. During the event, we will switch locations within a short walk. We would like to invite you to have a drink with us after the performance at Toneelgarage.
*The meeting point will be at Toneelgarage Rotterdam, and the doors will open at 18h15.
