Your Memory is like a Telephone Game
Iris Boer
‘Your memory is like a telephone game is a meditative exploration of 6 still images. Everything that unfolds stems from these 6 still moments as they are endlessly repeated, warped and combined to create new still images. The work explores the contrast between stillness and motion and the differences in meaning that these create.
The piece invites the audience into a trance-like state and encourages the audience to fill in the gaps between motion and stillness while creating their own associations. In this trance-like state, time slows down and allows the audience to focus on nuances of space, composition and shape.
The work is inspired by the inner workings of the mind as we scramble to piece together fragments of memories of long forgotten moments. It is an inspection of our memories’ fragility and plasticity as we distort moments, events and thoughts in an attempt to come closer to what we think, or rather hope, is the truth.
