THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM
Iris Boer / Lazy Susan & Co
The Elephant in the Room is a cinematic, intimate, yet confronting performance.
On stage, two dancers attempt to balance their relationship with a large, unpredictable inflatable. This living sculpture serves as a powerful metaphor for everything we tend to avoid, ignore, or suppress, until it inevitably grows out of proportion…
How can we find new ways to stay with the trouble?
Created out of a personal struggle with anxiety, the performance places this often individualized feeling in a broader context and reflects on the latent universal sensations of our time. All that is threatening, looming, eerie and suffocating is materialized in images, sound and movement. Constructed as a visual poetry album, the work invites the audience to slow down and drift through thoughts and feelings.
