In this workshop we will work with movement and composition of the human body through a surrealistic lens. How can we become aware of our physical habits, limits and assumptions, (de)form them, and discover a new moving body? And what story occurs by doing so? This practice is based on choice making within improvisation, becoming aware of our physical habits and challenging ourselves to move towards the ‘’the unknown’’. Often it is not as uncomfortable as we thought it would be. As we move, dance, and sweat, we will work towards adding the layer of performative presence. By feeding our imagination and taking the time to see what it does to our movement, we might find new ways of being present in the space we are in. This will be a practice in which we can constantly begin again, let go of associations, and create another reality in which we can play together.
This workshop will play with the intersection of dance, and mime practices, two of the art forms that Annabel currently is working with.

This workshop is designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Throughout two dynamic sessions, participants will delve into the core principles of BJJ, progressing from foundational positions to practical application through controlled sparring exercises. The workshop will focus on the 4 most important control positions and concepts of BJJ.
Day 1: The session kicks off with a warm-up to prepare both body and mind for the session ahead. After, the participants will receive a theoretical background and overview of the core principles of BJJ. From here, the participants will learn the first two main positions in BJJ. The participants will then delve into these positions themselves and practice on one another without resistance, gaining insight into the nuances of each. The workshop then progresses to specific sparring exercises tailored to reinforce learning outcomes. This is when participants can put what they learned into practice and learn the most essential skills for maneuvering and control.
Day 2: Building upon the groundwork laid on the first day, participants will start with a warm-up before diving into a recap of the previous session’s teachings. The workshop then progresses to the last two essential positions/concepts of BJJ, with a similar structure Day 1. Depending on how the group progresses, participants will have the opportunity to engage in free sparring.
Throughout both days, emphasis will be placed on safety and technique, with games designed to facilitate learning without the risk of injury. By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained a basic understanding of BJJ’s basic positions, techniques, and principles.
